Such great heights
Lauren’s sister and niece are visiting us this weekend. Lauren had this idea for us all to go take our first trapeze class.
Ok, sure, I’ll do it I say.
So this morning we head over to the Trapeze School New York which is near the Boston Garden.
We take the elevator to the top floor of a nondescript parking garage and the sign upon exit read:
Forget fear. Worry about the addiction.
What have I done.
The staff at the school were absolutely great. But it was so scary in the beginning. Especially the first time. It felt like an eternal climb up and that first leap, wow.
We spent two hours “flying” as they say. Everyone had a blast.

“You want to meet some folks for dinner you never met before in person on our vacation? Okay”
That was Lauren’s response when I suggested meeting Johnny and Rebecca Patience during our trip to Ireland.
I first came upon Johnny and Rebecca through their blogs (his/hers) when I was researching medium format film photography. It was clear they were both exceedingly talented but also kind with their time helping other photographers. I started following them on twitter (his/hers) and they followed me back and we started to connect.
When we met for dinner at a restaurant in Cork a few weeks ago it was like sitting down with old friends. There was so much familiarity & it was so great to exchange stories, laughs and dreams.
I’m grateful that my new friends Johnny and Rebecca are as kind in person as they are online.
I took this quick snap that wasn’t very good by any technical measure which is slightly embarrassing given the company — but a warm reminder of a wonderful evening.
ps: oh and by the way today is Rebecca’s birthday. Happy birthday Rebecca!
Galway, Ireland

We spent the last few days visiting & exploring County Galway and County Mayo. One of the best meals we had during our stay in Ireland was definitely at Kai Cafe & Restaurant which is located in Galway’s West End. The food, scene, location, artisan beers and owners David and Jessica are wonderful.
Today we are driving back to Dublin for one night and then will make our return for Boston.
Our summer getaway is coming to an end.

One of the biggest adjustments in film photography is the delayed gratification part. Make the photograph and then you wait.
But I’m starting to discover that the waiting part is one of the best things about film photography.
I just received these scans back from the lab. As our summer vacation approaches the end it’s so nice to relive our first week of vacation of some little towns in northern Spain.

After leaving Kenmare, we drove to Adare for the weekend. It’s a beautiful place with a mix of thatch roofed cottages, gardens, excellent food and numerous historic sites.
Today we are headed further north along the west coast.

We left Spain and arrived in Dublin late last night. We had time for a quick bite and then we crashed.
It’s been nearly 20 years since Lauren and I traveled to Ireland. And even back then our trip was way too short — only 4 days if I remember correctly.
This time we have more time to explore the country, catch up with old friends/family and look forward to meeting some new friends as well.
It rained much of the day today. But I don’t care, it’s great to be back. We explored the city, watched the Limerick vs Kilkenny semi-final at our friends house and finished the evening with a pint.
We leave Dublin tomorrow and will head south and west.
