This isn’t a political issue. It isn’t a religious issue. This is about how we treat each other as human beings. Opposing discrimination takes courage. With the lives and dignity of so many people at stake, it’s time for all of us to be courageous.

Parenting + healthcare

I’m not sure what is more stressful as a parent than seeing one of your kids being sick, especially for significant period of time.

In our family, one of my kids has been dealing with chronic headaches for the better part of 2 years now. It’s brutal. I feel so bad for her. We are trying everything we can and so is she. I admire her so much for fighting and staying positive as much as she can be.

We have seen medical specialist after specialist. Each time I feel like we are telling our story for the first time. It’s frustrating.

Last week we saw a cardiologist. He prescribed medication. The last one gave our daughter significant side effects (made her feel like she was freezing) that after two days she stopped it.

Lauren went home and read about the new medication. It is anti-anxiety drug that apparently offers some relief to people with extreme headaches.  The side effects listed in the research were beyond unreal.

We threw away the pills before our daughter came home.

I have so many thoughts about our medical system that I wanted to share but decided this post shouldn’t be about that. It’s just me out of breath and writing some things down. I’m looking forward to reading this post in the future and appreciate it’s in the past.

But right now it’s here.

To be continued…
