I don’t think there’s too much money sitting around. I think there’s too much money in too few hands. So when six white guys in suits control two and a half billion dollars, that’s not a good thing. Instead of being allocated just to one firm, it would be better if that two and a half billion dollars was allocated to 25 firms at $100 million each. It would lead to more diversity or people trying more things: data sciences, urban sciences, transportation, energy, materials science, and many others.

The honor system
Yesterday we explored Kauai by bike.
It’s absolutely my favorite way to see a new place.
Along the way, we hit a fruit stand which had the most amazing apple bananas I’ve ever had. There was no one running the stand. Instead it used the honor system. Take what you want and leave money in the box.
We ended up putting more money in the box than the amount of fruit we took. There is no change in the honor system.
For the next several miles I couldn’t get the honor system out of my head.
I know artists have used the honor system with new music. Several years back Radiohead successfully launched a “In Rainbows” using the honor system.
Artists using Bandcamp can set their own price as well and many of them do just that.
We haven’t seen other types of media companies, content owners or mobile developers try this method.
Would you pay money for any free apps that you use right now? Would you pay more money than what the developer is currently charging? Would you pay for podcasts or blogs that are currently free?
It would be interesting if the iOS app store or Android store allowed this as a choice. I know I’d use it.
Who you work with is just as, or more important, that what you are doing, when you are doing it, where you are doing it or why you are doing it.

Looking for video editing and workflow suggestions
Yesterday Lauren, the kids and I took our first surfing lesson.
I suppose it’s not technically my first time on a board. I tried surfing a few times in high school but I didn’t stick.
We had an absolute blast. My daughters got it almost instantly. They picked up some cool moves too. Even James at 6 got it. The waves were perfect for beginners like us.
We are hooked.
I used a GoPro camera to record the morning. I filled up the 8gig card with continuous footage (seems like the best way to use a GoPro is to just let it run).
So there is some great footage but also a lot of junk. It’s not watchable as is.
Any editing and workflow tips would be awesome.
Thanks.
