Three links for you today

I don’t know if this is going to turn into a daily habit but I enjoyed sharing three links yesterday. So I am going to do it again today.

Responses are not free for all comments by Evan Williams.

I stumbled across Ev’s post on how comments work on Medium. As always the case with Ev, it’s insightful and very thoughtful. It reminded me of the many conversations I had with David Karp over the years about his decision not to add native comments to Tumblr. A few weeks back I turned off Disqus comments on my blog. I am happy with the experiment so far. I love feedback but I just don’t want it in the comments. I would much rather interact on Twitter (@bijan) or via email.  I do have Tumblr replies turned on which only works if you have been a long time follower of my blog.

The Big AlphaBet by Om Malik.  Om has a great take on Google’s big announcement. I am happy Om is writing again with regularity. Besides being a friend of mine, he has this gift and I love it when he writes.

Song Exploder. I am increasingly listening to more podcasts these days. My latest addition is a podcast called Song Exploder. Each episode is an interview with an artist about a particular song. It’s fascinating. I am not doing it justice with this description. If you love music, you will love this podcast. Thanks Avner for the recommendation.

Three links

Back in the day, I used to follow blogs that would share a few links every day with things the author found interesting. It feels old school to do this now in the age of social networks like Twitter and Facebook, but here goes anyway.

Here are three things I wanted to share today.

When I’m Gone. An amazing post written on Medium. I’ve read it twice. It’s unbelievably heartfelt & touching.

Half A Center Of Making Photographs: A Conversation with Joel Meyerowitz. I love this photographers work. A fantastic interview.

Been There, Done That. My friend Fred wrote about his experience avoiding investments in areas where it didn’t work out the first time. I can absolutely relate. I’ve heard some investors refer to this as “too much scar tissue”. I don’t think that describes it fully. More like pain that never goes away.

Milworker, James Taylor

We went to see James Taylor play at Fenway Park last night. It’s been years since we’ve seen old JT play. But that voice, guitar and smile is still filled with a love of music.

It was a gorgeous, warm summer evening. So much fun singing along and appreciating this artist that inspired us to choose the name James for our little boy. Our sweet baby james.

Happy cover Friday.
