Radio.
I guess the SIRIUS/XM news isn’t that suprising.
The costs were breathtaking. The business model requiring satellites, new consumer radios and exclusive programming deals simply don’t compile.
But I think the product is very good. As a user, subscription radio works for me. Commercial free radio with lots of niche programming is a breath of fresh air. Especially for those of us in the Boston market living with lame radio stations.
So satellite radio isn’t the answer.
Streaming internet radio has so much potential but it needs to be unlocked from the traditional browser. Boxee and Sonos are showing the way.
I tweeted this morning that I want a Hype Machine channel on the radio. Either terrestrial or internet. In our cars, on our blackberries and iphones. I want it everywhere.
That would be a beautiful thing.
