Streaming from the cloud > my home server

I have a server on our home network that stores all of our home videos, music and photos.

But my home network needs care and feeding to run properly. I get disk failures or for whatever reason it will occasionally lockup.

This weekend the entire local music share didn’t show up on Sonos. I couldn’t see it on my other Macs either. I double checked everything, rebooted everything and configured it again. Still no joy.

So instead I skipped the home network and just listened to music from last.fm, rhapsody and the hype machine.

I think my ever increasing home server is becoming an endangered species. It just doesn’t make sense for me to care and feed that beast anymore. The cloud is better.

And this weekend was a good reminder.
