Introducing TechStars Boston
As many of you know Y Combinator is no longer supporting a Cambridge program. Paul & Jessica made this announcement last month. I said it was a loss for our local market.
Unknown to me at the time of that post, Brad Feld and David Cohen were busy working with Bill Warner (founder of Avid Technology) and Shawn Broderick setting up TechStars Boston. TechStars is an early stage, seed program for entrepreneurs and provides unique mentorship-support approach. TechStars is a relatively new program but off to a great start.
The next day or so, Brad reached out to me and told me what they had been working on. And we decided to get involved.
Last week while I was on vacation, TechStars officially announced TechStars Boston. Xconomy has a nice story about TechStars Boston and an interview with founder David Cohen.
My friend Nabeel Hyatt who is also a mentor said it best:
There is no question that as the #2 city for startups and VC money, Boston has a good thing going. Time and time again the big gaps that people talk about are the lack of seed stage mentorship, and the lack of angel funding. The concept of Techstars is essentially to try and fill that first gap, which hopefully leads to better positioned startups and a network of angels to fill the second gap.
I’m thrilled about TechStars Boston. And I’m honored to be part of the team of mentors.
Please apply now and spread the word!
