Buying an iphone 3g today wasn’t a problem but activation woes continue

My friend Nabeel and I met early this morning and joined the line at the Apple Store in Cambridge.

The line moved quickly actually until the very moment that we were about to buy our iphones.

And then everything came to a grinding stop. At our store at least, Apple wasn’t able to process anything. New lines, porting, activations nothing. We waited about 30 minutes to get past that particular nasty speed bump.

Then we were told they fixed it. So we were greeted by a very friendly apple store staffer who got our vital info, took our credit cards, clicked a few buttons and then gave us our new iphone 3g. We then had to walk over to another section of the store (again very orderly) to activate.

And then the sucky experience kicked in. They tried over and over again and ultimately told us that we can take our phones home and activate with iTunes.

That was at 10:30am.

It’s now 2pm and I still haven’t been able to activate.

Bummer.

Update: My bummer phase is officially over. My iphone 3g is activated and it’s fast! I didn’t do anything special. I just kept trying to activate it via iTunes every 45 minutes or so.
