More thinking about Obama and his (former) pastor
It seems like the voters are falling into a few camps after this weeks non stop coverage of Rev Wright and then Obama’s response.
One camp (Obama camp) is saying they are in shock that the media has paid so much attention to this point. via Bob Cesca @ Huffington Post:
“If the corporate media had been as diligent about watchdogging President Bush as they have been about watchdogging Reverend Wright, it’s very likely we wouldn’t have invaded Iraq.”
Another camp (Clinton camp) is saying that they knew that Obama was phony all along and now we should all see through this guy. via Jeff Jarvis today:
“No, this story is about a nutjob whom our potential president valued as an advisor. Obama would not repudiate Wright the first time he said all these hateful things; Obama did it only when they were repeated and when he realized that this could do him political damage.”
I feel like I understand both sides. I get the frustration. I’m tired. I want someone to rise above the noise. I want something to believe in.
And so I’m still in the Obama camp. He’s definately come down a few notches than the day when i excitedly cast my vote. And I stand by my intial post about why he may not have left his church years ago.
For me a vote for Obama is still a vote for a change. It’s a vote for hope. It’s a vote for ending nonsensical wars. It’s a vote for patience. It’s a vote for seeing the pitfalls of blind nationalism. And it’s an attempt to make something happen that better than what we’ve seen before.
I agree with Fred’s post today:
“I don’t believe it was just talk and I don’t believe Obama is a snake oil salesman telling us what we want to hear so he’ll get elected. I believe Barack Obama wants to lead this country to a new place and tackle the important problems that our nation is facing in the 21st century. “
And above all else I believe Obama is better than the other two candidates who feel more like the status quo.
That’s all I got at the moment.
