Migrating from Hotmail to Gmail
My wife has been using Hotmail for over 10 years.
I’ve been trying to convince her to switch forevah now but she’s been loyal and she liked her address.
Tonight she told me she was ready to make the move. The biggest problem with Hotmail in her life is that her blackberry couldn’t fetch her hotmail account. And its just so ugly on a Mac.
After creating her new gmail account, it was straightforward to export her hotmail contacts/address book and then import that file into gmail. Worked on the first try.
But there is no way to forward hotmail to gmail. You can only forward hotmail to another hotmail account, a MS Live account or a custom domain. Blech.
Then I discovered IzyMail. And IzyMail enables Hotmail POP3. Now I have her new account reading her hotmail and her new account is all setup on Gmail.
My household IT task for the week is complete.
