How are the labels & artists going to make money?

There have been lots of attempts by the labels to figure out a new business model.

Some of them embraced Apple and now they are fighting Apple.

Many are embracing Amazon but I’m sure in due time they will fight Amazon for better economics.

Some are trying to beat up startups.

Some are trying to be innovative.

Sometimes they come up with bad or really bad ideas.

The answer has to be making it simple to access content. The easier the better. Actually not-easy is no longer an alternative.

My friend Nabeel has a great post today about Rock Band customers paying for lots of songs. Thats because its so easy to get it on Rock Band. And easy wins.

While the label tax idea isn’t smart, i would be happy to pay a monthly fee to have be able to stream or access music everywhere I want it. Artists need to get paid but as Fred points out - it’s has to get easier to pay the right people.
