Initial impressions of TiVo on Comcast DVR
So like a lot of folks, I have been waiting to get TiVo running on our HD Comcast DVR.
Last week I received an email saying it’s now available in my town. I ordered it that day and they came today to install it. I guess we had to also get a new box from them (kinda of a drag since we had a bunch of shows recorded. oh well).
We now have it running in our house. When you click on the big TiVo button on the remote you get a familiar screen that looks like this:

In fact the TiVo remote looks the same as the Series2 remote except now it has an OnDemand button as well.
Other observations:
- the UI is like good old TiVo. So nice having big fonts, easy menus and the old familiar TiVo audio effects
- The TiVo guide doesn’t have any annoying banner ads
- the tivo guide has a vastly superior search app and it also searches across the VOD database
- and search results show what is HD
- and it’s much faster than the other Comcast HD DVR guide
- steve garfield’s trick works like a charm
- it took about 60 seconds to teach my tivo remote how to control the connected a/v system and tv
- season pass is one click on tivo just like I remember.
- everything just looks better
I heard from a few other friends to expect some bugs. But right now I’m quite happy.
Feels good to be home again with TiVo.
