NYT Correction re Steve Perlman and Beowulf
The NYT had a negative post on Beowulf and an incorrect reference on my friend Steve Perlman’s role in the visual effects . As a result of that article Valleywag had a post as well.
Steve’s latest creation, Contour was covered by the NYT a year ago but that breakthrough innovation was not part of the making of Beowulf.
Steve posted the real story in the NYT comments section. I hope that the NYT and Valleywag post a correction soon.
Update: The NYT actually has their correction online:
“This post has been revised in several places; the earlier version incorrectly stated that the makers of “Beowulf” used the Contour motion-capture system developed by the Silicon Valley entrepreneur Steve Perlman. Another company affiliated with Mr. Perlman did production design for “Beowulf,” but the filmmakers did not use Contour, which promises to improve the look of digital actors by allowing higher-resolution captures. “
