Last week I decided to buy the latest version of Microsoft Office. It’s the most recent version, Mac Office 2011.
My new MacBook Air doesn’t include an optical drive so I didn’t want to buy the DVD version. Instead I bought it directly from from Microsoft’s website and was able to download it straight to the Air.
I don’t know yet if the new version of MS Office is better than the last version. I bought it because I need Excel and my kids need PowerPoint for school projects. I’m not giving Entourage another chance. I’ve moved on to gmail and sanebox.
Along with my purchase, I was informed that I’m allowed it install this software on 3 different Macs. That’s good. So I did just that. It took me about an hour to install it all three machines.
I’m not sure what happens if I get a new Mac. Can I deactivate an account from my current machine and transfer the license to the new one?
I read with great interest the lengthy article in the New York Times about Microsoft and their resource heavy commitment to go after people that steal their software.
It would be much better if MS had a web version of Office that worked with any browser and on any platform. I’d love that. I wouldn’t have waited so long to buy MS Office and I’d be a more active user.
