Looking for the Vimeo of photos
I’ve been a loyal and active Flickr user for years.
If you head over to my Flickr profile you will see that I have something like 8k photos on their service. Much of them have been tagged too.
For me, I use Flickr to store all of the photos I want to save forever. I put a small subset of those photos on Tumblr to share a particular moment.
Flickr was one of the first web 2.0...
The best priority inbox
There are lots of folks that are enjoying the benefits of google’s priority inbox.
They say that once you train it, it works well.
That reminds me of the old days of speech recognition. Train the system and then it gets better.
I never cared for those old days of speech reco. Instead I like it and use things when they just work. The speech reco in Android is like that. It’s...

Attack of the clones
I’m on vacation this week. Im avoiding email successfully so far but I’m still checking twitter and tumblr. I guess i don’t consider that work :)
I saw earlier various folks were tweeting that there is now a Tumblr clone out of China.
I guess I’m not surprised. And I’m not worried.
I remember shortly after we invested in Twitter there were over a hundred twitter...

The thing about music startups
For the longest time most VCs didn’t want to invest in music startups.
The biggest reason without question: negotiating or partnering with music labels.
Basically most VCs felt that the labels were mostly interested in protecting the status quo and litigation vs new ideas and new approaches. That’s certainly was how I felt during the Veoh days (we were veoh investors. Label kept...
Some thoughts about Android Tablets
Let’s get a few things out of the day. I love my iPad. I use it all the time. I look at my laptop as an endangered species these days.
Apple sold something like 15million iPads last year alone
Recently, Android powered tablets are hitting the market. The state of the art for the Android camp seems to be the Motorola Xoom.
The question I’m thinking about is should startups develop...

Meritocracy inside our social networks
There is no doubt that I enjoy following celebrities on Twitter. If you hit my twitter profile @bijan you will see that I’m following a mix of celebs in business, sports and music.
It’s awesome to hear their unfiltered thoughts and when you get an @reply from them it’s quite cool.
But this post isn’t about celebs.
It’s about meritocracy inside of our social...

A little older
Today is my birthday. I’m 42.
Last year was an absolute blur - on the work front and on the personal front too.
I’m committed to making sure to appreciate the moment better this year.
Thats probably the best gift I could give myself. It’s easier to say than do of course but I’m hoping for a bit more perspective along with these new wrinkles around my eyes :)
Music Piracy
I’m currently on a plane flying from Boston to SF and catching up on various blogs and tweets.
Fred wrote a most interesting post, Anatomy of a Pirate, today where he describes the craziness of not being able to buy music legally. Go read the entire post but heres the punchline:
I don’t know whose idea this is of the way to market a record but I’m hoping they read this and...
Dear Microsoft, I don't want your dividend
Let me first get a few things out of the way. I have been a Microsoft shareholder for over 15 years. I still am. I used to work at Microsoft, I still have strong feelings for the company and have many friends that work there. Another disclosure: i have no idea what it’s like to run a public company.
